He was in trouble

When I saw his trouble, I saw all manager’s troubles. Maybe he is the best in the meeting room, but the loneliest, too.

He had to make the big decision, query his staff the details, bilingual-translate for foreign guests and local participants, and even ask someone to take his own credit card to buy ticket for an Englishman supposed to be here by tomorrow.

No matter big or small, he had to handle with all the situations, but obviouly was lack of effective support–it can be attibuted to lack of ability, experience or enthusiasm.

As a middle manager, his dilemma comes from both the supervisors and subordinates. Under the pressure above, if a manager didn’t have a ”real team” to carry on together, it is destined to be a punishment to him/herself.
